Day 16 - BUDAPEST

Day 16 started with an early morning. Some of the students started with a little gym work out to justify all the great food we were experiencing. After 45 minutes of sweat we headed up to the breakfast hall to say good morning to everyone.

A hearty breakfast at our upgraded hotel was followed by a quick ride on the bus to meet our tour guide for Budapest.
The first section of the tour was a visit to the " hero's square". This stunning square was built to honor the kings of Hungary and their saints (along with a tomb for the "unknown soldier"). After that we went to the third biggest and beautiful opera house in Europe. We didn't get the chance to go inside but instead we took a visit to he underground train system that had been running without fault every 4 minutes for over 100 years.

After that we went to a beautiful Christian church, not knowing much history we took lots of photos and paid our respects.

The apparent highlight of the morning was to go to the parliament. We got to know the story of the architecture and see the crown which was used for the original coronation of the first king of Hungary, st. Stephan. We then got a bit of free time for Lunch and shopping (Bailey bought Converse for 60 euro!). After that refreshing lunch break our tired group switched sides of the city to the Buda side where we travelled to the Buda Castle. Inside the castle we experienced a different style of church. After that Rapha was really kind to have bought a special entry ticket to the castle where we got a group photo showing our flags.

The last stop for the day was in Citadella, here we climbed the hill to the Liberty statue that was built for the liberation from the nazi's after World War II, where we got some of the best views of the city.

We hauled our hungry and tired group to a hillside for a traditional Hungarian dinner. We enjoyed the folk dance entertainment and Hungarian music while we had a delicious meal. Finishing the day we sang on the bus slapping our thighs and singing. We arrived back at the hotel just in time for a short jacuzzi, preparing us for the next day...:)
