Day 14 - VENICE – The City of Waters

Today some of the students had a running start to the sunny morning along the golden sands of Lido di JesoloAfter a quick breakfast we left for Venezia.

We took a tram to the outskirts of Venice and began our tour with a very Venetian sounding guide. As we walked along the beautiful narrow streets of Venice we saw many monuments that make the city such a wonder to behold.

After a very long walk to Piazza San Marco (Saint Mark’s Square) we all went off in groups for lunch and to buy some delicious Italian gelato (ice cream).Yum!

After lunch we met back up under the massive bell tower in the square and showed off all of the things we had bought. Specifically the Venetian masks that we got for the nights fancy gala dinner

We separated into groups of five to ride traditional gondolas through the beautiful canals of Venice.

Later in the day we took a boat taxi to the island of Murano where they blow the famous Venetian glass. We started with a demonstration by a master glass blower. He showed us how to make a beautiful plate then a rearing horse (in about 30 seconds!). To our surprise, they bother shattered across the floor from the change in temperature. Tadeo was chosen to amaze us with his skills at blowing glass into bubbles that soon joined the plate and horse on the floor. Then we all went crazy in the glass shop emptying our wallets.

We arrived back at the hotel after a very long day to prepare for our gala dinner dressed to the nines with our beautiful masks. After our fancy dinner the hotel staff surprised us with their great music and dance moves to which we all joined in and woke up the rest of the hotel guests.
