Day 5 - SACHSENHAUSEN AND BERLIN - AMSTERDAM

The group left Berlin and headed east towards Amsterdam with a brief morning visit to a Nazi concentration camp. The morning began with goodbye to one of the group's most beloved members and trip organizers JB.

We drove 40 minutes through rural Germany to one of the first Nazi concentration camps called Sachsenhausen. With the help of a wonderful tour guide, we went back in time to discover hidden and brutal history.
The gate to the Sachsenhausen concentration camp.

Here, more 35,000 Holocaust victims, primarily political opponents, died at the hands of a vast variety of causes. Many of us were particularly shocked by the terrible conditions the prisoners suffered under.

After the tour we hit road and drove nine hours, stopping for a few food and restroom breaks. The ride was long but bearable- great movies, European candy, and wonderful company helped pass the time. We ended the day in Amsterdam with a nice dinner, and the introduction to Bernardo, the President of Belo Europe who will join us for the remainder of our journey.
